Cloned food. Is it kosher?
I came across the most shocking news story that I have ever seen. You probably didn't get a chance to read this most pivotal of stories. Why? Because I just happened upon this story on Christmas Day when I accidentally knocked over an issue of the Los Angeles Times to some random page and it read: "FDA to OK Cloned Meat, Milk. Labeling Unnecessary." What, you didn't happen to read the LA Times on Christmas Day? There was supposed to be a 3-month public discussion about this but since it is now April, I can assume that the hamburger you are eating right now is cloned. Forget the fact that most Americans are against cloning PERIOD or that 90 percent of cloned products have to be discarded because they are genetically defective or forget the fact that lab animals have developed organ failure and anomalies after eating cloned meat or, even, forget the fact that the Bush FDA has overseen Vioxx deaths, a 50 percent increase in contaimenated foods (spinach, peanut butter, etc), and a whole lot of dead dogs. No, forget that. What I am wondering is if cloned meat is Kosher? I'm a Jew but I am not particularly kosher. I would just like to know if there is any way that I can avoid eating science experiments or do I have to become a farmer?

Honestly it will tkae some large amount of people, getting sick for us to ban cloned meat. More often than not humanity does things ass backwards. We wait until people die to improve things we knew were unsafe to begin with.

35,000 years of evolution and we still haven't learned a damn thing.

(PS I found you over a random livejournal search. I added you as a friend, I hope this doesn't creep you out.)

Im sure it was buried. What is Kosher anymore anyway? Did you read recently that one of the supermarket chains were pimping organic food thats not organic? Once it goes mainstream, the gov't will water it down.

Hi Daphne,
My name is Paul (OssO for frieds)...In Italy we don't have such kind of problems...
Last time I came in Us I don't feel well for many days cause what I eat and drink...
I don't know why Americans call MEAT isteads of CARTOON :)
HAHa...don't worry anyway I think you don't need to become a farmer to eat a good Kosher ;)
Anyway I think that if you go out of big city you will find a good food or ask to some frieds.Always remember my theory...If cheaper a thing cannt be good...Try to think about this..
Good luck...
OssO

Ps: sorry for my poor english..In Italy we don't you so much...If one day you will come in my country give me a call for a good Spaghetti and Pizza (NOT CLONED) ;P

Since most if not even all rabbinical sources prohibit any act of cloning I would assume that kosher food would not be cloned. However that is a scary thought. Yet another reason for me to eat kosher I guess.

I don't know if you still read this, but I find your opinions interesting. However, cloned meat being kosher is a tough one, which you'll have to discuss with a rabbi. The thing is that the Torah nor Talmud have foreseen the technological advances that we have made since the dawn of time, so obviously cloning is not advised for or against.

There are strict rules for what is kosher (chew the cud, certain properties of the hoof, not "boiling the calf in the mother's milk" and others) so you can take this in two ways. Either exclusive or inclusive. If it's *not* mentioned in the rules but done anyway, it's not kosher, or if it's not mentioned in the rules but done anyway we'll call it kosher.

The rabanut typically takes the former approach, but if you want to be 100% sure, just go for glatt-kosher. Although, don't ask me, I'm not Jewish. I just live in Israel. Move to Europe instead. It's not kosher, but the consumer is protected.

Also, you posted a comment about busty and education a year ago. I don't get a kick out of busts or waifs per se. Either of them can do it for me as long as they display a certain, well, let's call it "enthusiasm". The interesting question would therefore be how well-educated and respectful the guys would be that will watch and get a kick out of any kind of porn you can imagine as long as it's somehow horny? should you want to correspond about this... check out http://wintertijd.org
